Rocking Friday 2/23

I couldn't believe it when I saw Virginia's Rockin' Friday post in my Reader. With the kids out of school I totally lost track of the days. It's been a great, albeit uneventful week. I'm struggling to even remember what we did last weekend.

I know I played tennis a couple of times with my 14 year old. We are both struggling out there but we established a few rallies. Mostly it was great to spend time with him. It gets a little trickier as the move into those teen years, but I feel like he still loves his old mom (when I'm not nagging at him).

I found time for my twinchies I posted a couple of days ago. I'm all out of swaps now. Right now Tag Tuesday and Postcard Challenge are enough. Speaking of challenge, I made a tiny little step (tiny) putting myself out there. The director of the school play my kids are in, sent out an email looking for someone to do a logo and some graphics work. Usually I'm nervous to volunteer because there are others around who do graphics for a living. But this time I spoke up. Unfortunately, they had already gotten someone. Before I found that out, I whipped together a little example for her. She wanted a steampunk image, and the play is called Wonderland (a new version of the Alice story). You guys know what I did was easy-peasy, but I don't think she did. Thanks to Graphics Fairy I spent 5 min. layering different images and sent her this as an example of something we could do:

She loved it, and had some kind words for me. I don't know if they'll end up having me do anything, but it was a huge step for me just to send her something. Does that seem silly?

I am grateful that my oldest son's doctor appointment with the neurologist that did his tethered spinal cord surgery went great. He got the A+, and they don't even want to see him anymore (unless something should change). We were both so happy we went out to a nice lunch, just the two of us. Lately, he's been a little harder to talk to, but I just peppered him with questions and soon we fell into a lovely conversation that maintained all through lunch. It was a great "mom" afternoon.

It's been super warm the last couple of days. Yummy warm. It was 77F yesterday, which I just converted as 25C. It's a tease we often get in California in February before March gets cold and rainy again. It really lifts my mood! Even the animals seem happier!

I'm hosting an Oscars party for some girlfriends on Sunday. I haven't done much to prepare, I've really evolved into a extremely casual hostess. I'll pop out to Costco to pick up some nice appetizers and wine, and as long as I have the TV ready to roll, I think we'll be in good shape. Hopefully I'll have a positive review to report next Friday.

Those were just a couple highlights. It's been a much more relaxing week than I've had for a while. Can't wait to see what everyone been up to and I'm downright giddy that I'm actually posting on a Friday.

  1. Ah Sweetie, loving the post - yes these Fridays come around in a flash don't they - scary stuff. Loving the list, we're having some unseasonably warm weather here in Yorkshire at the moment, we went out for a meeting at school last night and it was 13 degrees C at about six pm - unheard of in February I can tell you - mind you it lulled me into a false sense of security as I tried to sit outside with a coffee today and let it be said today is not quite so warm - came back in sharpish LOL - teach me for assuming we were blessed with warm temperatures.

So glad the Doctors appointment went so well, and a lunch together afterwards seems perfect!

I'm also loving that people are able to share their common anxieties over approaching people, you are not the first blog that I've read where making such a step is a big thing - so give yourself a massive pat on the back, I think sometimes we forget what might seem small and insignificant to others is a massive step for us so celebrate being brave, because moving outside of our comfort zones means that we broaden our horizons and I'm not surprised they loved what you did because as a steampunk Alice logo - it's brilliant (I love Alice!!!).

The Oscars party sounds awesome, unfortunately it airs too late to enjoy it here, we just get to catch up on Monday mornings breakfast news. I hope you have a beautiful and blessed week ahead.

    Much love and sparkles

  2. I wanna come to your Oscar's party! Appetizers, wine and friends sounds just perfect. AS does your weather, you lucky girl. I know what you mean about the animals being happier - our bunny is distinctly happier, bouncing around like a loony!

Shame they didn't go with your steampunked Alice, it's fab. Still, now you've put yourself out there I bet a few doors will open for you.

That was the best news from your son's dr, and that sounds a lovely celebratory lunch afterwards. 1:1 time is brilliant - well done for helping your son to open up and TALK. Those teenage years can be trying, and very trying if talking becomes difficult. I'm quite sure your 14 year old still loves his 'old' mom :o)

Have a lovely, and hopefully sunny, weekend,

    xxx

  3. Oh your Oscars party sounds like great fun, like Joanna said its on to late here! I have seen some lovely homemade oscars cakes and decorations on pinterest today!
So glad everything is ok with your son, don't know what happened but sounds like it wasnt too good, so great news that everythings ok, and a fab mum and son lunch after!
Your Alice piece is stunning and well done for putting yourself out there, I know how scary that can be. I recently took some of my prints to a shop to sell and I was terrified, so worried that no one would like them. Its only through friends encouragement both IRL and blogger friends that I found the courage. I think your work is beautiful so grab hold of that courage and keep going for it!
Glad you have had a nice relaxing week, I hope next week is just as good for you x
